Follow Up Visits

Once you have had your first visit, your chiropractor will be able to give you a good idea of three things:

  • What is likely to be causing your pain or disability (diagnosis).
  • Roughly how much time and how many visits it should take to resolve (care plan).
  • Roughly how much improvement you should expect (prognosis).

This allows you to have a really solid idea of what’s going on.  Remember that these three things are only a guide and that every patient responds differently.  During follow up visits, your chiropractor will use all the tools at their disposal to resolve your condition as quickly as possible and improve your health.  This may be with gentle chiropractic manipulation, mobilisation, soft tissue release, lifestyle advice, work ergonomics, exercise plans, and much more.

How Many Visits Should I Expect?

Again, this will depend greatly on the individual; some people may require only a few treatments where others will need several months of chiropractic care.  On average most patients need about 6-12 visits to resolve their issue, making either the 6 visit or the 12 visit payment plans the most economically viable options for care.  Remember also that getting rid of pain does not mean that normal function has returned to the area and that a plan of care should be adhered to in order to see the full benefits of the chiropractic process.

Maintenance or Wellness Visits

Lots of people choose to have regular visits with their chiropractor after their pain or disability is resolved.  By this point, many patients have discovered that good health is about more than just the absence of pain or disease.  These patients are encouraged to arrange chiropractic visits at a regularity which suits their goals, lifestyle and budget.  Manipulation is only used when it is clinically indicated.

Here are just some of the benefits of regular chiropractic care:

  • Help to prevent future injury or pain.
  • Improve movement and range of motion.
  • Make sure your old issue doesn’t slip back.
  • Get continued lifestyle, exercise and ergonomics advice.
  • Optimise the function of your musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
  • Improve quality of life and achieve more activities of daily living.
  • Set and reach your own personal health goals.
