Aftercare Guide: Supporting Your Baby or Child After Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care for infants and children is gentle, effective, and tailored to each stage of development. Whether your child came in for help with colic, sleep disturbances, posture, or just to support overall wellness—this guide will help you make the most of their care at home.
For Babies (0-2 Years)
What to Expect
The beauty of adjusting a baby is that the adjustments themselves are incredibly gentle. There are not any fully formed bones, so everything is focussed on their nervous system responding to removal of stress. This means their responses are usually fast and very positive. After a visit, you may notice:
• Better Sleep: Longer, deeper naps or an easier bedtime routine.
• Calmer Mood: Less crying, especially after feeding.
• Improved Digestion: Relief from colic, reflux, wind, or constipation.
• Easier Feeding: Improved latching and reduced discomfort while breastfeeding.
These changes are signs that the nervous system is functioning more smoothly, allowing the body to better regulate itself.

Aftercare Tips for Babies
Your baby might need a good nap afterwards. Let them sleep without overstimulation.
Continue feeding on demand. Chiropractic often improves feeding comfort and efficiency.
Physical closeness helps babies feel safe and supported as their body integrates the adjustment.
Keep an eye out for positive shifts—or any unusual reactions. Let your chiropractor know if anything concerns you.
A Word on Crying During Your Baby’s Visit to the Chiropractor
Crying in a visit is very common – and we don’t want you to feel self-conscious about it! Babies sometimes cry because of the bright environment, the new people or the fact that they are away from their parents. We will do everything we can to make them (and you!) as comfortable as possible.
For Children (2 Years and Up)
What to Expect
For toddlers and older children, chiropractic care supports posture, sleep, immune function, coordination, and emotional regulation. Your chiropractor will continue to keep a close eye on ‘milestones’, most of which are due to normal neurological development. The older a child gets, the more adjustments look like adjusting a tiny adult. But don’t worry, your chiropractor will still use minimal force in line with their age. Children still respond excellently to chiropractic care, as they do not have the years of reinforcement or injury that adults have. You may notice:
• Improved Behaviour: Some children feel calmer, more focused, or more emotionally regulated after care.
• Better Sleep & Energy: They may fall asleep more easily, sleep more deeply, or have more balanced energy during the day.
• Reduced Discomfort: Help with growing pains, sports injuries, or discomfort from poor posture or heavy backpacks.
• Fewer Illnesses: Many parents report fewer colds and faster recoveries during periods of regular care.

Aftercare Tips for Children
Kids often feel great after an adjustment. Gentle movement is fine, but avoid rough play or sports immediately after if they seem a bit tired.
Hydration helps the body flush and integrate after an adjustment.
Encourage them to express how they’re feeling in their body. “Does anything feel different?” can spark great insight.
Keep an eye out for positive shifts—or any unusual reactions. Let your chiropractor know if anything concerns you.
Kids are growing fast. It may take a few sessions to notice lasting changes, especially with behavioural or developmental goals.

When to Return
Your chiropractor will tailor a care plan for your child. Once complete, you may choose to return for wellness visits or alternatively you might return:
• After a fall or bump
• Around key growth milestones
• In school holidays
• When there are posture or coordination concerns
• When sleep, mood, or immune issues return
• During sports seasons, school transitions, or periods of stress
Regular check-ins help keep their spine and nervous system functioning to its best, as they grow, change and adapt.
