Frequently Asked Questions about Massage Care

We understand that sometimes our patients want to know a little bit more information about massage therapy before booking an appointment. Our massage therapists have tried to answer the most commonly asked questions in this massage therapy FAQ, however if you can not find the answer here please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you have muscle stiffness, pain or would like to release stress and tension, massage is a very safe and effective solution. Some problems however, will not respond to treatment and should be addressed by another healthcare specialist.  Either way, it cannot hurt to come in for an assessment so that we can point you in the right direction.

Our reception staff will help you to book the appointment that best suits your individual needs. However as a general rule of thumb; if you have a painful problem sports massage or deep tissue massage is a great place to start.  If you are simply looking for a traditional relaxation massage to help you unwind, Swedish or head, neck and shoulder massage are recommended. We also offer reflexology for general health and wellbeing.

We have a team of massage therapists, who offer a number of different types of massage. We will make sure you see the massage therapist who is most appropriate for you.

Sports massage therapy shouldn’t be painful.  Obviously everyone has different pain thresholds and what may feel like gentle pressure to one patient may feel deep and painful to another, its therefore really important that patients give their massage therapist feedback if they feel any tenderness or pain, this may not mean that the area in question can not be worked, just that the tissues of the muscles have not yet been warmed up enough yet.  Once the muscles have been fully warmed up it maybe necessary in some patients to apply deep pressure to a very tight muscle for a few seconds, this may feel uncomfortable at the time and the therapist should use a pain or discomfort scale with you as the muscle releases. Don’t be tempted to grit your teeth and think “no pain, no gain” as the muscle may go into cramp, spasm or worse still cause some damage to the tissue.

Cost will vary depending on each persons treatment plan. Our full price list is here on our website and we also offer payment plans to help make things as affordable as possible.

Yes.  We accept all types of payment including cash and card payments with the exception of American Express.

Some insurance providers are happy to cover complementary therapies, but you will have to check with your individual provider to see if they cover this and if they accept our clinic.

With massage therapy, the general process is, you pay for treatments directly to the clinic and then claim back from your insurance provider with an invoice we provide. We are happy to help you with your claim, so if you have any further questions or requirements, please contact us.

No.  You can book an appointment with a massage therapist without seeing a chiropractor first. Our massage therapists will discuss future care options with you in your appointment, and they may advise continued massage therapy and or seeing a chiropractor, however you should not feel any obligation to make an appointment with a chiropractor at any stage.
