How does a Red Light Therapy machine work?

At Relief, we use a state-of-the-art, medical grade red light therapy wall, meaning the treatment you’ll receive is much more concentrated and more effective than the red light lamps you can use at home.

How the red light therapy machine works will depend on the type of treatment you’re receiving. For example:

  • Surface Skin Treatment – this kind of treatment helps promote skin health by boosting collagen production. The red lights during this treatment are wavelengths of 630nm and 660nm, which is visible to the human eye and is absorbed by the upper layers of the skin.
  • Deep Tissue Treatment – this treatment reduces inflammation and relieves joint pain by increasing cell metabolism and improving circulation. This treatment uses near-infrared light at higher wavelengths of 810-850nm. The light is invisible and works deeper and can penetrate the muscle and joint tissue.

There are many benefits of red light therapy and the treatment can help with:

What to expect with Near-Infrared Light Therapy

During your first visit at Relief, you will be shown how to use our red light therapy wall and once this is completed, you will be left in the room on your own to start your treatment. You will stand in front of the red light therapy panel where the lights will stay on for 10 minutes and after 5 minutes, you will need to turn around. For maximum results and benefits, we recommend wearing minimal clothing during your treatment.

We also normally recommend undergoing a course of near-infrared light therapy as this will ensure you get the most out of your treatment. Our team can suggest a recommended dosage and frequency depending on your goals, but you should monitor your progress and choose how often you use it.

Although red light therapy is safe for most people, it may not be suitable or advisable for everyone. For example; photosensitivity, cancer, age 13 and under, serious burns and pregnacy are all reasons to avoid red light therapy.

Each session is just 10 minutes and costs as little as £10 for those who have a payment plan discount. For those who don’t, it’s just £12 per session.
